Willow Services Peterborough - Combi Boiler Replacement

When is the Right Time to Replace your Boiler with a Combi Boiler?

The simplicity and convenience of a combi boiler makes it a popular choice for many homes in the UK. If you currently have a conventional boiler in your home you may well be considering replacing it with a combi boiler in the near future but there are a few things to think about before you make the jump.

If your conventional boiler is relatively new then it wouldn’t make financial sense to replace it with a combi boiler. If you are looking to replace an older boiler then you should definitely consider whether a combi boiler would make heating your home more efficient.

We have put together some pros and cons to help you decide if replacing your conventional boiler with a combi boiler would be the sensible choice for your home:

Pros

  • Space Saving – Combi boilers are compact in size and do not take up a huge amount of space in your home.
  • Efficiency – Combi boilers are generally much more efficient at heating your home.
  • On Demand Hot Water –  Can reduce your heating bills compared to the constant heating of stored water in a conventional boiler.
  • Easy to Maintain – The popularity of combi boilers means parts are readily available.
  • Ideal For Smaller Households  – If you have 1 or 2 bathrooms and don’t have a high demand for hot water then a combi boiler is an ideal solution.

Cons

  • Expense – Swapping out a conventional boiler for a combi boiler is a lot more work and money than a like for like upgrade. Having to remove the tanks from the loft, upgrading pipes and installing the new boiler in different location all adds.
  • Might not Suit Large Households – If you have a large household with a high demand for hot water then a combi boiler might not be the best choice for your home and you would be better suited to upgrading to a newer conventional boiler.
  • Not Suitable for Weak Mains Water Pressure –  If your home has low mains water pressure then a combi boiler wouldn’t be the right choice for your home.

Upgrading your boiler is a big expense so you need to make sure you choose the right boiler to suit your home and needs. A combi boiler is often a great choice for a small family home but not necessarily for those with larger homes and high hot water demands.
